In this article offered by Proteclight, we review RALS Peli™ portable lighting devices, what they are, why they are used and who typically uses them.

What are Peli™ RALS?

Remote Area Lighting Systems from Peli™, also known as RALS, are powerful, energy efficient, and environmentally friendly portable lighting fixtures designed to light large areas. They can also be referred to as stand-alone floodlights, area floodlights, light towers, generator lights, stage lights or site lights.

These Peli™ stand-alone floodlights are an economical, environmentally friendly and responsible alternative to traditional generators. They ensure quiet operation, no smoke emissions and easy handling with a minimal footprint.

RALS Peli™ area lighting systems are designed to operate autonomously. They are typically powered by rechargeable batteries. This means they do not have cables that can trip users. For the newer RALS 9490 and RALS 9480 models, the battery is ejectable and interchangeable, allowing the user to extend its operating time.

Made of LED bulbs, they are more economical and produce little or no heat compared to other types of bulbs. They also contain no glass components that can break. Peli™ also offers a RALS model, the 9455Z0, which is ATEX Zone 0 (Category 1) certified, the only fixture on the market that allows lighting in ATEX zones.

Some Peli™ RALS models feature a multi-position telescoping pole (up to 180 cm) and a 360° articulating lighting head.

Most RALS come in a sturdy Peli™ case with wheels and a retractable handle for easy transport and shock resistance.

For some models sold on the Proteclight online store, such as the RALS 9470, 9470M, 9480 or 9490, it is possible to manage the activity and lighting power of the LEDs remotely. For others like the 9460 or 9460M, an intelligent lighting autonomy control is installed to better manage the battery life.

Why use Peli™ self-contained lighting fixtures?

RALS stand-alone lighting systems have been designed to light large areas. This makes them important tools to have on a construction site, during railroad maintenance or during emergency response. RALS improve the safety and efficiency of workers by allowing them to see better, thus reducing the risk of accidents.

These Peli™ professional lighting floodlights can also be used to provide security for premises, facilities or restricted areas.

RALS area lights can be used at night especially for nighttime emergency response such as an accident or search; during the day on overcast days or in dark areas such as a workshop.

Who can benefit from the use of self-contained lighting fixtures?

LED area lighting is a product designed for professional use.
They are intended for :

  • Emergency, fire and rescue services

The Peli™ LED area lighting range is widely used by emergency workers and firefighters to illuminate the scene of an accident, light up remote areas or emergency scenes in seconds.

  • For law enforcement

The work lights will allow police officers to quickly illuminate crime scenes, emergency scenes, night search areas, traffic accidents or traffic stops.

RALS can also be used by the military to illuminate command centers, departure areas for helicopters and other air vehicles, or security checkpoints.

  • Industrial maintenance, construction, road and railroad maintenance services

Area lights are the perfect portable lighting for nighttime construction workers or railroad engineers. For professionals working in hazardous materials industries, such as oil, gas and petrochemical refineries, there is an explosion-proof RALS, the 9455, which is ATEX certified to illuminate work sites containing explosive atmospheres.

Obviously, there are many other applications for worklights beyond those already listed. Any activity that takes place at night or in darkness may require RALS area lighting:

  • Airports - aircraft refueling, baggage handling, passenger loading and unloading, departure area lighting and runway maintenance
  • Sports activities - outdoor practices and competitions at night
  • Filming and videography - filming, photography and videography at night or in dark and remote areas
  • Emergency lighting - emergency lighting for facilities that require continuity of lighting in case the lights go out unexpectedly
  • Hobbies or recreational activities - painting; carpentry, such as lighting a lathe; automotive, such as car maintenance; for lighting garages and workshops
